Workplace Wellness Seminars

Whether it is a brown-bag lunch seminar or a special event focusing on wellness, consider inviting Lucinda Pepper of Embodied Health to present accurate, timely information on wellness to your staff.  Here are some examples of seminars Lucinda Pepper has given:

  • Eliminate Pain Naturally!  Self-Care Strategies for the Workplace: Washington County-Stillwater Gov. Center, Cottage Grove Service Center; City of Oak Park Heights
  • Yoga + Movement @ Work: Washington County, Cottage Grove Service Center
  • Shape Up With Yoga: University of Minnesota, Agronomy Department
  • Relaxation Through Yoga: Girl Scout Council of the St. Croix Valley, Annual Meeting of the Leadership Group

On-Site Massage Therapy

All you provide is an area for the massage to take place, such as a conference room, office, or break room.  Lucinda Pepper brings the supplies and the hands that help your employees relax!  Massage therapy is a great incentive, performance reward, and a wonderful program to offer weekly or daily to enhance productivity.

  • Research has shown that employees performed more accurately on math tests after a short 15-minute massage session, which increases alertness and memory.
  • After a couple of weeks of regular massage sessions, employees experience a decrease in stress-related illnesses and and increase in immune response.
  • On-site massage can address the symptoms of ergonomic and repetitive use stress which often result in reduced productivity due to discomfort and pain.

Workplace Yoga Classes

Yoga gets staff moving and combats the effects of a sedentary desk and computer-oriented job.  Yoga programs at work create a community among employees who seek to increase their levels of fitness and wellness; a community that carries into the workplace long after yoga is over.

  • Yoga strengthens the cardiovascular, respiratory and immune systems, resulting in healther, more fit employees and decreased instances of absenteeism due to stress-related illnesses and non-specific pain conditions
  • Yoga restores muscular balance to imbalanced areas, reducing instances of ergonomic stress and repetitive stress syndromes
  • Yoga helps people to connect with who they are, meaning they bring more authenticity and genuine happiness to their workdays
  • Yoga provides a quiet space for employees to reflect, which reduces mental/emotional stress and increases clarity, memory retention, and mental focus

Workplace Wellness Tools & Statistics

Tools

  • "The Gallup-Healthways Well-Being Index has been developed to provide the official measure for health and well-being. It's the voice of Americans and the most ambitious effort ever undertaken to measure what people believe constitutes a good life."  This website is valuable to business that want to track the health of the nation and see how the health of their employees matches up.  Tools include daily, monthly and annual well-being reports and a survey tool you can administer to your employees.  You can also find speakers and other resources for your corporate wellness events.

  • Steps to a Healthier Minnesota has introduced a Workplace Wellness Toolkit that you can use to identify needs and create your customized workplace wellness committees, initiatives and programs.

  • The Wellness Council of America has an excellent list of benchmarks and benefits related to developing a wellness team and implementing wellness programs.  Welness Council of America also presents multiple levels of awards nationally to workplaces that place a priority on wellness.  Since 2007 only ONE Minnesota workplace has been recognized at any level of the WELCOA awards - that needs to change!
